The aim of this project is to study the space
lying between the foreigners living in the Czech
republic and Czech society. This space is usually
reflected from the perspective of the majority
in research publications and media discourse.
There are texts about the attitude of Czechs towards
foreigners, about the will of Czechs to live with
incomers, about the issue of xenophobia in Czech
society, about Czech laws concerning foreigners
etc. The foreigners usually have no voice here.
Our research project aspire to complemented this
perspective with the perspective of the foreigners.
We will use sociological qualitative research
method, biographical interview to collect accounts
of foreigners. We are interested in a specific
group of foreigners, who come from countries which
life conditions are usually treated as worse than
in the Czech republic. For the project, the accounts
will serve as data for analysis of self-presentation
and life courses of foreigners.
The aim of the project is to analyse the relationship
of foreigners to the Czech society and their self-presentation.
Further the collection of biographical accounts
will be created. Some of the accounts will be
authorised and available to the public. The research
project "How are the foreigners in the Czech Republic:
Analysis of biographical accounts" preceedes on
the Institute for Sociological Studies of the
Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University
Prague. It is funded by the grant number KJB 7104401
of the Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences
of Czech republic.
